Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport endured a frustrating weekend at Snetterton, collecting just twelve points from two points finishes in the third round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.
Arriving with momentum after a victorious outing at Brands Hatch, the WSR-run team encountered its fair share of disappointment during a bruising weekend of on-track action. Hopes were high in the wet conditions of FP1, as Jake Hill topped the timing sheets in the opening session. FP2 continued to show positive signs, with Jake finishing final practice in P6. However, managing his Toca Turbo Boost (TTB) handicap, qualifying proved a challenge. Jake was unable to progress beyond the opening session and was left to settle for a P20 starting position for Sunday’s first race.
Despite a lightning start in race one - gaining five places within just three corners - Jake was the unfortunate victim of an over-ambitious move from a rival and was T-boned. With suspension damage, he was forced into the pits, and the team worked expeditiously to get the BMW 330i M Sport back out on track to ensure he could take the chequered flag. Although he crossed the line in 22nd, Jake was not classified in the results, but his return to the track allowed him to start race two from the penultimate row of the grid.
Race two saw Jake produce a spirited drive, carving his way through the field with 11 impressive overtakes to secure an 11th-place finish.
In race three, he delivered another gritty performance, battling his way to ninth. With two points finishes from the three races, it marked the first time since Oulton Park in 2022 that Jake and the team failed to secure a top-five result across a race day.
Despite a testing weekend, Jake remains third in the Drivers’ Championship, with three of the ten rounds completed. Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport now turns its attention to Thruxton on 7–8 June, determined to return to the sharp end of the grid.
Jake Hill, Driver, #1 Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport:
“It’s been one of the trying weekends of my touring car career and certainly one of the most challenging I can remember in recent times. We’ve still learned a lot, which is good for progress with both the car and the team, but it’s been difficult with my best result being ninth.”
Mark Blundell, Sporting Director, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport:
"It was a tough weekend, no doubt about it, and we’re certainly not where we want to be. The high of Brands Hatch followed by the disappointment at Snetterton has been a real rollercoaster and a clear reminder that we can never afford to get complacent. We’ve faced challenging weekends before, and the team is working tirelessly to get us back to where we belong. We’re incredibly grateful to our partners and supporters who continue to stand by us through the highs and lows—we don’t take that support for granted, and we’re determined to repay it with the results we all know we’re capable of."
