High-speed Thruxton up next for MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square

September 17, 2020

Following on from two successive podium-scoring weekends, the MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square team are keen to capitalise on their momentum as the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship heads to Thruxton this weekend - the fastest circuit on the calendar.

After claiming the team’s maiden podium with third place at Oulton Park, Jake Hill repeated his success one week later at Knockhill, giving the team its first pieces of silverware.

Hopes are high of another strong showing this weekend at Thruxton, where the Honda Civic Type R has fared well over the years. The track itself is renowned for being the fastest circuit in the United Kingdom and serves as a true test for drivers.

Jake currently sits seventh in the Independent Drivers’ standings, three points behind Senna Proctor in sixth and occupies fourth in the Goodyear Wingfoot Award. In the Jack Sears Trophy, Sam Osborne has made further gains and is now fourth in the standings on 131 points.

In Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Esmee Hawkey is aiming for further success at the top of the Pro-Am class - which she leads with 75 points - following victory and a third-place finish last time out at Knockhill.

Shaun Hollamby, Team Principal, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square:‍

“Following a very busy first half of the season we’re all raring to go again this weekend. Our progression so far has been excellent and two podiums in two weekends was a great reward for all of our hard work. We’ll be looking to keep that success going this weekend and into the coming rounds.”

Mark Blundell, Sporting Director, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square:‍

“The successes of the last two rounds have been great to see but we now need to keep pushing. The only way we are looking is forward and we’re always pushing ourselves to keep achieving the maximum of what is possible. This weekend will be no exception and I’m looking forward to seeing how we fare.”‍

Jake Hill, #24 MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Honda Civic Type R:‍

“Knockhill was great! P1 in practice and my best-ever qualifying, followed by three strong points finishes, backing up the results at the previous event at Oulton Park where I had another podium and more points scores. There's still some niggles that we hope we've had time to resolve now, but I'm going to Thruxton full of confidence - the car was on Pole for both races here last year and won one of them, so we should be very strong.”

Sam Osborne, #4 MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Honda Civic Type R: ‍

“It’s crazy to think we’ve reached the halfway point of the season already, we’ve achieved so much as a team in such a short space of time. I’m very grateful for all the hard work they’ve put in getting the car prepped and ready for the weekend after the accident at Knockhill, I’ll be aiming to repay them with some more points finishes this time around!”‍

Esmee Hawkey, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square, Official Development Driver‍

“The season so far has been really successful so my aim to keep that going through this second half. I know there’s even more to come from what we have shown recently at Oulton and Knockhill and that has to be the aim for this weekend. Thruxton is a treat to drive in these cars and I won both races here last year so it holds fond memories for me.”
