Return to Winning Ways for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport at Brands Hatch

May 14, 2025

Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and Jake Hill returned to the front of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship field in style at Brands Hatch, with a pole, victory, second place, and an eighth place finish in the second round of the 2025 campaign.

Marking the second event of the 2025 season, the team arrived at Jake and the team’s home circuit looking to bounce back from a disappointing opening round  - and did just that in front of a packed crowd in Kent.

Saturday’s qualifying saw Jake bring another standout performance behind the wheel of the WSR-run BMW 330i M Sport, securing his 4th BTCC pole position, and first at Brands Hatch, with a blistering lap and laying the foundations for a successful race day ahead.

Kicking off Sunday in perfect fashion, Jake stormed to his first win of the 2025 campaign leading every lap for a lights-to-flag in Race One - marking his 21st career BTCC victory and his 60th overall podium in the series.

Following his podium in Race One, Jake - along with the other top-three finishers - was required to start on the hard tyre under a new rule introduced for 2025. Despite the inherent pace disadvantage, he worked hard in the opening laps to bring the tyres up to temperature. Unfortunately, a poorly timed safety car neutralised his efforts, and once the race got back underway, Jake was left vulnerable to rivals on the faster soft compound who could generate heat a lot quicker. He battled hard to defend his position but ultimately slipped back, crossing the line with a hard-fought P8 finish.

Thanks to his determined drive in Race Two, Jake earned a place in the reverse grid draw—and luck was on his side as he and the team were handed a front-row start in P2. The final race delivered a thrilling showdown reminiscent of the 2024 title fight, with Jake and Tom Ingram going head-to-head for second place. Under relentless pressure, Jake delivered a masterclass in defensive driving, holding firm to secure a hard-earned P2 finish and a well-deserved return to the podium.

With 48 points collected across the three races, Jake now sits third in the Drivers’ Championship standings with 80 points overall, - just 12 points off the top spot. The BTCC season continues at Snetterton on May 24 - 25  for the third round of the season, where Jake and the team will look to build on their strong early-season form.

Jake Hill, #1 Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport:

"What a weekend we’ve had. A win, a second, an eighth, and pole on Saturday too - it’s been mega. Huge credit to everyone at Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and WSR for giving me a fantastic car all weekend. The team effort has been phenomenal, and it’s paid off in a big way. Now, it’s all eyes on Snetterton as we look to keep the momentum going."

Mark Blundell, Sporting Director, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport:

“It was great to get back to the winner’s circle at Brands Hatch! It’s a real testament to the team’s hard work and resilience to bounce back from Round One in such an outstanding way. We know just how much effort the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport team has put in, and the countless hours from WSR and Jake to turn things around - this result is the perfect reward."

"It’s a long season ahead, and there’s still plenty for us to improve on to keep performing at this level, but I’m incredibly proud of everyone in the team. I'd also like to congratulate WSR as this weekend they surpassed the most amount of BTCC victories than any other operating team in the series' history - we are proud to have played a part in a fair few of them in recent years. A huge thank you to our partners - their continued support keeps us motivated, and we’re so grateful to everyone who’s been behind us on this journey.'"
