Silverstone awaits for MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square

September 24, 2020

Following a hard-fought weekend at Thruxton, the MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square team head to Silverstone - the Home of British Motorsport - for the sixth round of the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.

The team claimed another top-ten finish after battling back from a difficult start to race day in Hampshire with Jake Hill recovering from a puncture in the first race of the day to climb back to 11th in race two before moving further up the order to ninth place in the final race.

Aiming to carry that strength and resolve into this weekend, the team head to the Northamptonshire circuit aiming for a return to the podium.

With Silverstone’s National circuit setting the scene for this weekend’s action, cooler temperatures are expected compared to those of last weekend along with the outside chance of rain presenting drivers with a challenge.

Entering the weekend, Jake currently sits seventh in the Independent Drivers’ Standings with 116 points and continues to close towards the top of the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, in which the 26-year-old is currently fourth with 60 points, just 18 behind leader Dan Cammish.

Meanwhile Sam Osborne occupies 15th in the Independent Drivers’ championship with 48 points and fifth place in the Jack Sears Trophy on 159 points.

The team holds sixth place in the Independent Teams’ championship with 160 points and will be looking to make further gains this weekend.

In Porsche Carrera Cup GB, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square development driver Esmee Hawkey continues to impress after doubling up with Pro-Am victory in both races at the high-speed Thruxton circuit and is aiming to carry her winning momentum into Silverstone.

Shaun Hollamby, Team Principal, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square:‍

“I was very proud of the team for the way we fought back at Thruxton and it’s that strength that will make sure we get back to where we belong this weekend. Only cruel luck denied us of another top-five last weekend and I’m positive Jake can get back there this time around. For Sam, a couple of points finishes is a very realistic prospect and we’ll be doing everything we can to help him achieve that.”

Mark Blundell, Sporting Director, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square:‍

“After a tricky start to the day at Thruxton, the team pulled out all the stops to make sure we recovered as best we could throughout the day. Their hard work and effort will no doubt serve us well this weekend as we push to be back at the sharp end. I’ve got great confidence in both Jake and Sam that they can get the job done this weekend and I look forward to seeing how they get on.”‍

Jake Hill, #24 MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Honda Civic Type R:‍

“I was really pleased with how strong we came back through the field at Thruxton and that shows what we’re capable of in the races. Hopefully we’ll avoid any bad luck and that’ll allow us to fight back in the top-five where we know we should be.”

Sam Osborne, #4 MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Honda Civic Type R: ‍

“I’m hoping to improve even further this weekend at Silverstone. I felt there was perhaps more on the table at Thruxton so my aim is to make that extra push this time around and break into the points. There’s still a lot to play for and I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”‍

Esmee Hawkey, MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square, Official Development Driver‍

“I was delighted to take a clean sweep of Pro-Am wins at Thruxton and to take fourth place overall in the second race. I feel I’m performing really well out on-track and the aim moving forwards has to be to keep this form going. I claimed an overall podium at the start of the year and I can see no reason why I can’t do the same again.”
